Here's the deal: we're not going to mention the last couple of entries. We're going to forget all about them. I would delete them, but then there'd be numbers missing and it wouldn't making sense. Anyway.
Christmas Day was good. I already knew what a few of my presents were (this laptop, a dressing gown, iTunes giftcard, Friends and New York calendars) but I got a few surprises which were lovely. Some times people know me better than I know myself. You can expect a picture of all my presents some time soon, once I've figured out the technical stuff. I watched Happy Feet for the first time, and despite the fact that it was probably a little bit childish, being about animated tap dancing penguins, I enjoyed it. Growing up is over rated. I wish I could have gone to church, but I didn't want to be the only one and it would have been just been inconvenient.
Doctor Who. It deserves to have a paragraph to itself. Now, before I say anything else, I want to say this: I think Russell T Davies is a good writer. Granted, there are episodes of Doctor Who that aren't exactly my favourite (The Unicorn and the Wasp and Midnight being just two that I can think of) but that doesn't mean he isn't a good writer. But...there were parts of this latest episode that I didn't like. I didn't like the way that the Master came back, though I think the whole madness thing worked. I didn't like the whole skeleton thing that the Master did. But as for the rest of the episode? Yes, I liked it. I want to know what happens next. I'll be watching on New Year's Day.
Boxing Day was also good. We went to see Carol and Nick (Carol is my Dad's cousin. Her mum is my nan's sister. It gets confusing.) and their children Tom and Ellie. They live about half an hour away from Chichester so I talked about the uni and the shops and various other related things. Tom's in his first year of college and is a bit shy- we didn't talk too much, but he's got a lot of good books in his book case (Wuthering Heights, Addition, Darren Shan) so I'm sure we can always talk about that next time. Ellie is thirteen, lovely and a very good dancer; I'm thinking of going to see her perform at the uni in February.
I'm in the throws of writing a short story, but the deadline's the 31st and it can be anything up to 2,000 words. I'm only on 870 at the moment, because I re-wrote it today in first person. I don't know what it is, I just don't like writing in third person. I'm struggling with the opening paragraph though and I've changed it a couple of times.
As for books, from Lydia gave me Numbers and The Book Thief. I finished reading Numbers yesterday and I liked it. The Book Thief I read parts of over the summer but I never got to the end. With an Amazon voucher I got, I bought An Abundance of Katherines, The Treasure Map of Boys and Creative Writing for Dummies. (I also ordered Wall-e because it's one of my favourite films.)
Tomorrow I'm going shopping in town, going to have lunch and see Sherlock Holmes.
EDIT: That was last night. I grew too tired and my keyboard was going weird, so in the end I gave up and went to bed. I did indeed going shopping and as a consequence have 90p left and a £10 gift voucher for New Look because I couldn't really find anything that I liked. I bought a pinstripe top/dress type thingy that cost a bit, but I've decided that I'll get a lot of use out of it. I got a couple of necklaces in the sale as well that are pretty. Then come the dvds: Doctor Who Series 3 Volume 1, The Ex, Burn After Reading, Little Miss Sunshine, Yes Man and Billy Elliot. With my WHSmith voucher I bought a magnetic whiteboard (because I have too much magnetic poetry to fit on the fridge), paintbrushes and a fountain pen (because they were on sale and I'll find a use for them. Somehow.). ANYWAY.
Sherlock Holmes was good. Disgusting in places, with the slicing of pigs and everything, and scary when they were fighting, but otherwise good. I was surprised, because it's not really a film I would have chosen to go and see myself, and I only went because the rest of my family were going- but I enjoyed it. The way they left at the end hints at a sequel, and if they do, I'll be seeing it.
This has been long enough now, so I'm going to drink hot chocolate and watch Scrubs :)
B xxx :)
